DAY ONE:  TRISTANA

APRIL 5, 2010  (Monday, 11-5)

TRISTANA – “The dance between the body, breath, and your inner vision”

Breakdown the details of the anatomy of the breath and how the unification of this breathe is joined with the movements in the body. Take a deep look into the bandhas as a physical tool for posture balancing and energetic tool to move the flow of the prana deeper to break through blockages.

Tie all of this together with the “eye play” techniques in the Progressive Ashtanga method as you connect the physical gazing points to your inner vision and intentions in yoga asana. This workshop covers all the basic for any teacher to absolutely make sure students understand so they can have the concentration and proper tools to drive their practice in any direction they want. Also taking time to show how these “three ingredients” can be used with your verbal speaking skills and personal physical advancement. Some skills can easily be overlooked and are fundamental in the development of a maha sadhana or great practice!!

We will do exercises to strengthen these details and a master class to tie it all in.

COST PER DAY:  $120

DAY TWO:  SCIENCE OF SEQUENCING

APRIL 6, 2010  (Tuesday, 11-5)

SCIENCE OF SEQUENCING:  “molding to the individuals needs”

We will talk about the guineas and the faults of the Traditional Ashtanga Yoga and how it has inspired the non-traditional Rocket sequences by Larry Schutlz. By looking deeper into the lineage of Ashtanga Yoga, David found Krishnamacharyas preferred method was to mold the Ashtanga practice to each individual’s needs. We will take a look at the 6 routines and some of their possible variations that can be used to develop an asana class that can give you an open creativity with the Ashtanga yoga asana sequences.

We will discuss the idea and use of modifications (beginners level) and compare this to the idea and practice of variations (advanced level). Learning to bring this method to all levels of practitioners, beginners and advanced, is a primary goal of the Progressive Ashtanga Yoga. This outlook is perfect for working with alignment in the basic postures of the traditional Ashtanga Yoga and learning how to place the function of the pose before the form.

The lead class will be longer today and will encourage the students to practice all levels to feel the benefits.

COST PER DAY:  $120
DAY THREE:  JEDI TRAINING

APRIL 7, 2010  (Wednesday, 11-5)

JEDI TRAINING:   “unleashing the force within you”

Learn the drills used to develop the Jedi Sun salutations and other advanced floating and flying techniques. These methods of using the vinyasa in the Progressive Ashtanga Yoga are considered a basic stepping process. These must all eventually be learn to pass through the 3rd level of the training.

These techniques ensure a long and healthy practice by limiting the impact of your practice and focusing the students mind on strengthening the body more than pushing the flexibility. Developing a deeper support in the joints of the body by doing the exercises to establish your own personal strength to stretch ratio.

With knowledge of your individual resistance balance, you can begin to strengthen yourself step by step and quickly pass through levels you never thought would have been possible. We will also look at some of the inversion techniques in the Progressive Ashtanga Yoga and how these postures can create more fluidity in your practice once they are mastered instead of stopping the flow of your class by having to go to a wall or try over and over again with no success.

This is your class to find out just how much the Progressive Ashtanga Yoga can help you find joy in your practice again.
